I had a blast with this painting. It’s rare that I paint a man. I prefer to paint women for all sorts of reasons. But this painting wanted to be a man, so what else could I do? I really do love to mix the loose sketching with the slower painting…

I called him ‘Rock Star Historian’ because be looks like a character from history, yet he has this lowbrow thing going on. To me, lowbrow is about as hipster as you can get, almost more hipster than a rock star. Although most rock stars would throw up in their mouth just a little bit about that comparison. Accept it! Take it like a man, hipster!
